Our drunken Bride of the Sun, Calendula Officinalis.

Our drunken Bride of the Sun, Calendula Officinalis.

Calendula officinalis, our “Bride of the Sun”, belongs to Trolley’d’s early botanical cocktail stories. This field note records how fresh and dried petals, a calendula tisane and a spirit-based tincture informed the Intercontinental Elixir of Love. Read it as hospitality history, then explore the current ingredient profile and cocktail experiences.

Editorial update: . Original Trolley’d field note retained at its existing address.

From fresh petals to a cocktail preparation

Our original field note described fresh calendula petals in cocktail presentation, with dehydrated petals used when fresh flowers were unavailable. It also recorded a calendula tisane combined with a high-proof spirit to make a tincture for the bar.

These are records of Trolley’d’s preparation work, not a claim of medicinal benefit or an invitation to identify flowers from a photograph. For the broader ingredient discussion, continue to Calendula officinalis: edible petals and cocktail garnishes.

The Intercontinental Elixir of Love

The calendula preparation became part of the Intercontinental Elixir of Love, a name that connects the botanical story with Trolley’d’s aviation language. The original text also included a whimsical reference to seeing fairies. That is folklore and theatrical storytelling, not a physical effect promised by a drink.

The point of the story is the relationship between an ingredient, its preparation and the occasion in which it is served. A good cocktail can carry a narrative without presenting that narrative as a health claim.

Read the library with context

The Ingredients & Foraging library contains food ingredients, botanical histories and plants that should not be consumed. Inclusion alone does not establish edibility or suitability for an event menu. Species, plant part, sourcing and preparation need their own consideration.
