In early 2026 Trolley’d tested a small, place-led botanical format at a private property in Kangaroo Valley. By July it had become something else. This is the record of what changed, and where Trolley’d now sits.
Early 2026. The test.
In March 2026, at Lake David at Lake Yarrunga, Trolley’d ran a two-day test with a small group of guests. The idea was narrow and deliberate. Walk slowly. Look closely at what grows in the valley and how the light and weather move through it. Sit down to drinks made for that afternoon, from native ingredients, regional produce and carefully sourced botanicals, with a non-alcoholic serve held to the same standard. Spend an hour on the craft of the glass. Eat at one long table. Paddle on Lake Yarrunga at last light with a local guide, and let the morning mist do what it does. What the test showed.
It worked as an immersion. It also showed its own limit. A walk with a drink at the end is an activity, and an activity is priced and bought like one. When we asked what people would remember, the answer was rarely the walk.
It was the property, held for a few people at a time. The pace, which nobody had to set because the place set it. The table, and the fact that dinner was the centre of the evening rather than something fitted around a programme. The privacy. And the time we had deliberately left open, which is where most of the conversation actually happened.
Those are the components of a residency, not of an activity. That was the turning point.
July 2026. The residency.
On 18 and 19 July 2026 a private pre-production residency was delivered at Lake David for a small group. It was not a retail booking, and the guest contribution was a pilot contribution rather than a price. It brought together the property, deliberate hosting, a shared dinner by Moonacres, botanical hospitality by Trolley’d, privacy and time left open on purpose.
The difference from March was structural rather than a matter of scale. Nothing was an add-on. The drinks sat between the landscape and the table, marking the shift from the day into the evening. Dinner was the centre. The silences were kept. Guests arrived and were hosted rather than scheduled, and the residency was built around them rather than around a set of activities.
The evolution.
The broader format needed its own identity, enquiry system and operating model. That is what Wylde Systems is: a private residency platform for private groups, founders and leadership teams, beginning at Lake David at Lake Yarrunga and shaped, each time, around the people coming.
Trolley’d remains what it has been since 2012, an independent hospitality company, and within Wylde Systems it does one thing well: botanical hospitality, where it is engaged for a particular residency.
Who does what.
- Lake David at Lake Yarrunga is the flagship host place: the land, the accommodation and the setting.
- Wylde Systems is the residency platform: the format, the hosting, the qualification of enquiries and the enquiry itself.
- Cultural programming, where it is commissioned, sits under separate cultural authority and is not presented or interpreted by Trolley’d.
- Trolley’d is the independent botanical hospitality practice: ingredients and provenance, seasonal and botanical drinks, non-alcoholic parity, production and service, with its own pre-existing recipes, equipment and systems.
- Other partners, such as Moonacres for food, are named when they are engaged for a specific residency, and not otherwise.
The three residencies.
Wylde Systems now offers three formats, each by enquiry and each described, scoped and priced by Wylde Systems.
- Private Residency, for private couples and small privately formed groups who want a rare place to themselves.
- Executive or Founder Residency, for founders, boards and leadership teams who need better conditions for judgement and difficult conversation.
- Hosted Destination Programme, for luxury travel designers, concierge partners and selected private groups placing a contained experience inside a wider itinerary.
What happened to the immersion.
The original two-hour immersion is no longer offered. The paddle on Lake Yarrunga that featured in March is not a current product; a canoe extension known as The Crossing remains proposed rather than confirmed.
